But these days Baldwin Hardware in Reading does more than just brass. Baldwin has 33 different finishes in all, and many of those by the way…are developed at a local lab. This day we”re going through the steps of an antique copper finished door knob. But before it gets like this…it starts like this… STUFFLET: We bring in 44,000 pounds of brass stock from either Ohio or Michigan. REPORTER: The big brass cylinders are cut into smaller pieces called billets. REPORTER: Then, they heat things up a bit. STUFFLET: Somewhere between 1500 and 1550 degrees through a furnace.
